PROJECT: SEDGEFIELD SECTION HOUSE
Durham Constabulary
Appointed directly by the client as part of a larger design team and commissioned initially to provide mechanical and electrical design duties for the refurbishment of the former police station in Sedgefield Co Durham. This landmark listed building forms a pleasing aspect to the village of Sedgefield and has done so since the turn of the century. This building was originally constructed as a police station and maintains many of its original features externally and internally.
Prior to the design commencing we considered a full overhaul of the services and systems to provide a further 25 to 30 life expectancy, providing a costed energy and carbon saving report for the client enabled them to make decisions early on in the design process.
We considered replacing the existing systems with conventional systems but the client had greater aspirations and agreed to embark on a renewable and low carbon strategy to heat and light the building. This culminated in the replacement of the aging boiler plant for a ground coupled heat pump system with closed ground loops in the rear car park. The design team also replaced the sash windows for energy saving double glazed sash windows and also fully insulated the roof to modern standards.
We also upgrade the lighting scheme to fully automatic control with high efficiency high frequency LG3 compliant fittings.
All the above culminated in an EPC B rated building from the original EPC G rating.
